Abstract |
Narratives about superheroes have been linked to ideological aspects, in which the United States and its (neo)liberalism have played a leading role in many well-known figures, such as Superman or Spiderman. However, after the influence of the Fourth Wave of Feminism, superheroines have become more relevant, occupying new spaces in these narratives and even standing as representatives of feminist slogans. In fact, some of them have even had their own television series, as in the case of She-Hulk and Scarlet Witch. In view of this, the present study presents an ideological analysis that allows us to identify whether liberal feminism —by inference from the ideological structures followed by their counterparts’ hombres— is the predominant one in the aforementioned television adaptations. The results show how the representation of these women is marked by characteristics far removed from their mission as superheroines and, of course, from their male counterparts, such as infantilization or the importance of the emotional as opposed to the rational, among others. © 2023 Ediciones Universidad de Salamanca.
