Abstract |
Objective: To examine the scientific literature on the influence of exercise during pregnancy on maternal weight gain. Method: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials. Results: We analyzed 46 studies and found a positive association between regular and moderate exercise and lower maternal weight gain. The total reduction was 0.28 kg (95% CI, 0.19-0.36; I2, 68.7%; Pheterogeneity, 0.001). The studies also showed that a lower number and percentage of pregnant women exceeded their weight gain than controls (RR, 0.85; 95% CI, 0.80-0.90; I2, 21.7%; Pheterogeneity, 0.19). Conclusion: Regular and moderate exercise during pregnancy reduces the risk of excessive maternal weight gain. © 2018, Sociedad Espanola de Ginecologia y Obstetricia. All rights reserved. |
