Abstract This study introduces a hierarchical energy management platform that leverages blockchain technology to eliminate the need for a centralized coordinator. The platform is designed to operate in energy communities facing stochastic uncertainties. The approach is divided into two levels: at the upper level where a stochastic distributed model predictive control problem is solved by all households in the community to determine control actions on an hourly basis. A smart contract serves as a bridge between households, performing control tasks and facilitating information exchange. In contrast, at the lower level, each household independently solves a model predictive control problem locally to track the references established after consensus is reached by the upper layer, at a much higher frequency. The effectiveness of the platform in optimizing the community\'s economic performance and adhering to probabilistic constraints is demonstrated through extensive simulations.
