Today the question about identity is disturbing in the same way that it was in the historical moment in which the book of Ruth was probably written. Contrary to the position of official Judaism in the post exilic period, Ruth offers an alternative way of understanding what it means to belong to Israel, how YHWH speaks in history and what is the role of the Law in this self-communication. This paper seeks to go back to the faith experience revealed in the story of Ruth and, from there, to offer some clues for our current times. |
