Abstract |
If the neoconservatives were known for their stubborn and radical opposition to Barack Obama\'s foreign policy, their criticism of Donald Trump\'s presidential performance cannot be said to be minor. The neoconservatives consider that the political irruption of the tycoon poses a threat to American democracy, implying also an important drift within the Republican Party. From a comparative analysis between the fundamental ideas of ‘trumpism’ and neoconservatism, this article will focus on studying how, according to the neoconservative vision, the ‘America First’ foreign policy, by ceasing global responsibilities of the United States, endangers the liberal world order and, ultimately, American security and international security. Finally, attention will be paid to the existence of certain coincidences between Trump and the neoconservatives and the possibility of a relative neoconservative influence in some areas of US foreign policy will be assessed. © UNISCI, 2018. |
